LiveStation: Another Microsoft Silverlight touch point
Skinkers, a Microsoft OEM, is expanding the beta this week of LiveStation, a peer-to-peer (P2P) application that delivers live TV and radio to a user’s PC.
LiveStation, which Microsoft Research co-developed with Skinkers, includes a client-based player that runs on top of Silverlight, Microsoft’s rich-media technology. Even though Silverlight is cross-platform/cross-browser, LiveStation so far only runs on Windows XP and Windows Vista machines.
Currently, the set of available stations is quite limited, but the LiveStation team is promising it will add more as the product progresses.
Individuals interested in beta testing LiveStation may register on the LiveStation Web site.
Microsoft acquired a minority equity stake in Skinkers in exchange for Skinkers’ use of the Microsoft P2P intellectual property.
