When will Apple go public about ActiveSync and the iPhone?
The New York Times and Wall Street Journal have confirmed that the iPhone will work with Exchange Server. But The Times’ David Pogue notes, at least for now, Apple is relying on IMAP, not Microsoft’s ActiveSync protocol, to provide iPhones with Exchange push-email functionality.
My sources are still standing by claims that Apple has licensed ActiveSync. And if Fake Steve Jobs says it’s true, it must be, right? (Much love back at you, Mr. Namaste.)
(And just to be clear — as there seem to be some folks who have trouble reading — I didn’t say Apple needs to license ActiveSync to enable the iPhone to work with Exchange. I realize Apple could do this without licensing ActiveSync.)
When do you think Apple will talk ActiveSync, if ever? Making the iPhone more appealing to corporate users, even ones running a Microsoft product, is a good thing, isn’t it?
