Works 9.0 to come in both free and paid flavors
Here’s a nice find by the folks over at Clubic.com: The Web-order form for Works 9.0.
Microsoft is still planning to offer a paid version of the next version of its consumer/home-office productivity suite. It will cost $39.95 at retail — about $10 per copy less than Works 8.0.
There’s still no link or mention of the free, ad-funded version of the next version of Microsoft Works, which Satya Nadella, the head of Microsoft’s search and ad platform unit, said that Microsoft had released as of late last week.
I wonder if the ad-funded version of Works 9 will debut as a service, instead of software. Such an offering would make Works 9 more of a real competitor to Google Docs & Spreadsheets, in my opinion, than would a fat-client offering.
Microsoft still isn’t providing any more specifics. Stay tuned.
