Details of rumored devices emerge; the Nokia E71 and Palm Treo 850
I thoroughly enjoy using S60 Nseries and Eseries devices, but there hasn’t been a QWERTY keyboard Eseries released since last year’s Nokia E61i. There have been lots of rumors of a successor and the lucky folks at The Boy Genius Report now have their hands-on a Nokia E71. And one of the best features of the device is the support for U.S. 3G HSDPA on AT&T. I am very excited about this device and think it will be my next major purchase.
The Nokia E71 has a 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, quad-band GSM, and dual band UMTS/HSDPA. While there are several other QWERTY devices in this form factor, the BlackBerry alternative, I think this E71 will rock them all in terms of camera quality. I also like the sound of it being thinner than the iPhone and rock solid in terms of quality. There are several photos in the image gallery and The Boy Genius Report is working on a full review with video that I can’t wait to see.
In other rumored device news, TamsPPC posted the Treo 850 specs that supposedly came direct from a Palm employee. Here are the rumored specs of this device:
- Windows Mobile Professional 6.1
- GSM device with UMTS/HSDPA support
- 256MB flash ROM (storage memory) and 32MB RAM (program memory)
- Unknown processor
- 320×320 touch-screen display
- Bluetooth 2.0 EDR + A2DP
- 802.11 b/g WiFi
- Integrated GPS reciever
- microSD card slot
- 2 megapixel camera
- 1500 mAh battery
Most of the specs look good and it is nice to see WiFi in a Palm device, however that 32MB RAM just cannot be true. I don’t think 32MB of RAM can be found on any Windows Mobile device in the market today and even the lower end devices have at least 64MB. 128MB is really the amount you need to multi-task without worrying about running out of RAM and if the 32MB is true then that will be a device killer for most users. With GPS and the wireless radios 32MB will barely run navigation software and the camera at the same time.
