The Nokia Internet Tablets, N800 and N810, are interesting devices that are quite powerful in many respects, but also have limits from making them a must-have. I keep bouncing back to the N810 as updates and applications continue to improve the device and make it more functional for me. The latest two pieces of software that have me using my Diablo-updated Nokia N810 are Mauku and Canola 2.

I have been using Mauku off and on as my Jaiku client application, but this latest version of Mauku adds in Twitter functionality and that makes it MUCH more usable and desirable for us social networkers. Twitter updates appear with a blue color in the sidebar and Jaiku updates appear in green. So far, I have been quite impressed with the speed and functionality of Mauku for the most part, but it doesn’t seem to follow links posted in updates so there is still some work to be done. Check out Darla Mack’s post for some cool gestures that are supported in Mauku to help make the user experience a bit more fluid.

I also recently rediscovered Canola 2 and have been using it to download and listen to podcasts and listen to Last.fm radio. While I like the Last.fm application on the iPhone, you cannot do anything else with your device if you want to listen to music. With the Nokia Nseries Tablets you can run Canola with the Last.fm plug-in and still perform other tasks with the device. I have been pairing it with the Nokia E71-2 (North American model) and I am actually considering a return of my iPhone 3G as a result.

What are your favorite applications for the Nokia Internet Tablet?

I don't know if I can name a favourite but the ones I use regularly with my N800 - skype, media player (mostly used as a UPnP client for films), the GPE PIM (sync's with google calendar), the built in... (Read the rest)
