Toshiba comes back to Windows Mobile with a couple new devices, i-mate updates too
It has been a couple of years since we last saw a Toshiba Pocket PC, but as the popularity of Windows Mobile continues to dramatically increase we are seeing old and new manufacturers launching devices. Toshiba looks to be starting off well with the G900 that looks a lot like an HTC Hermes or Apache device and runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional. I just received some of the specs on the Toshiba G900 and this baby looks sweet! The G900 sports a 300MHz, Intel PXA270 processor, 64 MB RAM, 128 MB ROM, quad-band HSDPA, Bluetooth radio, 2 megapixel camera, finger print sensor, miniSD card slot and W-VGA (Wide VGA/480×800). Yes, this looks to be one of the first new high resolution Windows Mobile devices with the highest resolution we have ever seen on a Windows Mobile device.
Toshiba's other entry is a Standard device with a slider that reveals a phone keypad, similar to a Nokia N80 device. These Toshiba devices are slated for release in Japan so I don't know if we will even see them in the U.S.

I have used a couple of i-mate devices in the past, including the JAQ3 and was very pleased to see the JAQ3 with the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade since I think the new OS will greatly improve the snappiness of the device. i-mate looks to also be releasing colorful SPL Windows Mobile 6 Standard devices to satisfy those who want to add some splash to their lives. The JAQ4 and Ultimate are two other new devices coming from i-mate. The JAQ4 reminded me of my Nokia E61 when I first saw it, but the JAQ4 also includes a 2 megapixel camera and integrated GPS radio. It looks wider than the JAQ3 and about the same length so I don't think this will be a super slim device.
The last new device is the i-mate Ultimate that has a very basic front with a slider that reveals a phone keypad. The gold color is flashy and the minimalist look on the front may be appealing for some as well. Actually there will be 5 models of i-mate Ultimate devices
