Nokia N95I was reading the jkOnTheRun blog this morning and stumbled across their post that a Nokia N95 with U.S. 3G support was coming in September. I then followed the link to the original story by Om Malik where he happened to stumble upon one of these early N95 units while meeting with the Sling Media folks. The Nokia N95 has been a huge worldwide seller and I personally keep going back to this amazing device. The inclusion of U.S. HSDPA (only with AT&T) is a major step in making this a more compelling purchase here in the U.S. I was also excited to hear that the Sling Media representative Om was talking with was using SlingPlayer Mobile on the device as I have been waiting for a S60 client for months.

There was no word on whether this will be sold directly through the Nokia USA site or through a carrier, but I imagine we will probably see it directly from Nokia so they don’t have to jump through all of the U.S. wireless carrier hoops to get it into people’s hands. It will probably still run close to the US$750 or so price that the current N95 does, but in my opinion it is the best S60 device currently on the market and worth the price.

UPDATE:  Ricky Cadden at the Symbian-Guru site has more details, including a U.S. flyer, that shows this version of the Nokia N95 will have a black back, U.S. 3G radio support, and a whopping 1,200 mAh battery (compared to the rather limited 900 mAh capacity model now in the N95). It is a good thing I went with AT&T for data as I will be able to get HSDPA browsing on the N95 soon. T-Mobile really needs to get their act together and launch 3G in the U.S. soon or they will continue to lose customers like me.

The current N95 devices due have 3G radios that work on the 2100 MHz frequency, but as I understand it is in a different band than what is supported in the U.S. so only works on international 3G networks.

Rumors also state this N95 may even have an 8GB drive, now that would be cool!... (Read the rest)
