T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve supports HotSpot @Home
I tried out the T-Mobile HotSpot @Home service as a beta tester over a year ago and then gave the service a try when it rolled out in a limited capacity in Washington State. The service then rolled out nationwide in late June of this year and I was lucky enough to receive a free phone for being a long-time customer. However, it was a Samsung t409 feature phone and just didn’t cut it when I am used to high-powered smartphones. I was resigned to wait until a more full featured phone with support for HotSpot @Home was released before even reconsidering the service.
I then just checked out the unboxing photos of the BlackBerry Curve at The Boy Genius Report and noticed on the retail box that there was a T-Mobile HotSpot @Home logo. I knew that WiFi was integrated on this device since AT&T has it, but haven’t heard anything about this device supporting T-Mobile WiFi service. This is AWESOME since I find the two current feature phones running with this service to be a bit lame I am seriously considering this new phone. IMHO, this makes the T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve THE BlackBerry device/service to beat and I am going to try to get my hands on one soon to give it an evaluation. I understand that you may be able to find them in stores now with an official release date of Monday, 24 September. The device price varies by your upgrade status, but looks to range from US$399 to US$449 .
I only tested BlackBerry devices in the past, but a couple of people I know swear by them and with this functionality I may just have to give one a longer term trial.
