It is quite rare to find a dedicated PDA without phone functionality today, but it looks like HP is now shipping their iPAQ 210 Enterprise Handheld. This is quite a powerful PDA with a 624MHz processor, 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM, integrated Compact Flash and integrated Secure Digital slots, 4 inch VGA (480×640 pixels) display, integrated WiFi and integrated Bluetooth radios. Actually, the Dell Axim X51v I have from a couple years ago has just about the same specs, the display is 3.7 inches instead of 4 inches. However, you can no longer find the Axim X51v or HP hx4700 so this new HP is really your only choice for a high-end stand alone PDA.

I had a chance to play with this device a bit at CES (some thoughts and a photos can be found here. It is a nice PDA and felt well constructed. The display is beautiful and is really the highlight of the device. The HP iPAQ 210 can be ordered for US$449 from the HP website. Thanks to Brighthand for the link.

It will be interesting to see how this device does in the market since so many people seem to be moving to converged devices with integrated telephony functions. This iPAQ 210 combined with a Bluetooth keyboard could serve as a very nice ultra portable computer for many people though, with its long battery life, large display, and virtually unlimited memory expansion options. Are you interested in stand alone devices like this new iPAQ?

There is no replacement for a decent PDA
When smartphone crashes call (and possibly some data) goes with it. When PDA crashes only data may be lost. So, for people who need PDAs (doctors for example) this is a great device.... (Read the rest)
