MWC08: Hands-on with a working Google Android device
I have seen the photos and videos of the Google Android device online, but just had the chance to get my own hands-on time with device here at the Mobile World Congress event. An ARM representative had one for demonstration and one in a sealed plastic display case (the display one was gray). I shot the video below using the Nokia N95 NAM as we walked through some of the basic functionality of the Android device.
This specific model was manufactured by HTC and felt great in my hand. It was solid and was actually quite light. The OS seemed very snappy in switching applications and running applications. The web browser launched with a bit of fade-in too. Apps like the Calendar had the look and feel of Google Calendar and as a consumer of Google products this device appeals to me. We didn’t see any lock ups or other bugs on this device either. It definitely had an HTC feel to it with the button placement and keyboard design, but was also thinner than I though it would be.
