ThinkGOS using MySpace tie-in for new Linux PC
ThinkGOS and Everex have found a new gimmick for selling Linux desktops — a tie-in with MySpace.
The MyMiniPC runs a version of GOS Linux and is priced at $499. It’s “optimized” with a host of MySpace applications, and brags they’re delivered just weeks after the MySpace API launch.
The press release on the new box includes this quote from Jim Zemlin, president of the Linux Foundation:
“gOS Space combines an awesome user interface with social networking to take Linux mainstream yet again, this time with MySpace instead of Wal-Mart. To me, gOS Space can be the face of Linux for the MySpace generation.”
There are two keys here.
- The unit is the size-and-shape of an old floppy disk drive, designed for desktop use but easily transportable.
- The idea of tieing-in with a Web site for sales. It is easy to see Everex selling Google PCs and Yahoo PCs now, even eBay PCs. For those for whom one site is plenty enough.
Feel free to use the tag line, guys.
