sqo oss logoCall me a Euro-skeptic on this one.

SQO-OSS, a project supported by the European Commission, has released the first version of its quality check program, Alitheia Core.

If you’re looking for a baby name, Alitheia means orange in Celtic or Gaelic. Cute idea if you have a redhead.

The Alitheia Core project itself is open source, and far be it for anyone to look a gift horse in the mouth. But software should have no nationality, nor even a collection of them.

Calling software European, as opposed to American or Burmese, sounds like an effort at exclusion. And a claim that your quasi-nationalistic project is the measure of quality strikes me as a way to set oneself apart.

On the other hand is there really anything different between software having a nationality and being under the control of a corporation?

We report, you decide.
