As the year winds down I want to look back by following-up on the 10 ZDNet Open Source items you found most worth a click in 2006.

We'll start with number 10, an April item on Kaboodle.

Kaboodle LAN Commander, a simple, open source LAN management program, had reached its 1.0 milestone, according to a release I received from the project. Apparently you thought it was good stuff.

Upon further review, however, you may have been confusing it with something else. Kaboodle.Com is one of many bookmark sites drawing intense interest from venture capitalists. The other Kaboodle was at Demo last year.

This Kaboodle is from Echogent Systems, whose mission is to let you connect to data from wherever you are. Echogent has a number of other products, and Kaboodle itself is now up to Version 1.02.

I just have to wonder how many of those who clicked on that April story were looking for the other Kaboodle. Maybe if they called it KaboodleLAN it would help. Which brings up an interesting question. Should open source projects have boring names, lest said names be taken over by someone with more money?
