NetApp: Layoffs and a $3 million CEO jet

NetApp’s CEO, Daniel Warmenhoven, took delivery of a personal $3 million airplane just as the company laid off 500 employees.

From ComputerWorld UK:

According to FAA records, Warmenhoven registered a Phenom 100 on 28 January. The plane, built by Brazilian company Embraer, seats four to six adults and typically sells for around $3 million.

“The jet is privately owned and is not a NetApp corporate expense,” said NetApp’s director of corporate PR, Jodi Baumann. “Dan Warmenhoven purchased the jet 2 years ago as a personal expense. It was recently delivered to him due to a long wait list.”

Yes, I understand it’s his reward for past success and that NetApp is supposedly a great place to work. But, in this difficult economy with so many unemployed, I call failure on such examples of excess.

Am I overly sensitive or is this issue worth screaming about?
