Apple's MobileMe experiences post-launch pain

Apple’s new MobileMe web service experienced post-launch downtime yesterday, frustrating users who expected more.

CNN Money described the problem:

Apple’s new data-synching service got off to a rocky start Thursday, as some users were denied access to their accounts just hours before the next-generation iPhone is slated to go on sale.

“The MobileMe transition is underway but is taking longer than expected,” Bill Evans, an Apple spokesman, said in an interview. “The new Web applications are not yet online but the rest of the service is up and running.”

Since this is a paid service, GigaOm wants a letter of apology and a refund:

But I want to see a letter of apology and a refund for time lost to outage. In fact all paying services should be forced to refund the money for the time the services are down. That way the high cost of returning a couple of dollars is going to eat into their profits, making them work harder.

Om, do you really think that’s gonna happen? Get real, dude.
