Symantec acquires VontuSymantec has finally pulled the trigger on a deal to acquire DLP (data loss prevention) specialist Vontu.

The anti-virus powerhouse announced today it will spend $350 million (to be paid in cash and assumed options) on the oft-rumored deal to gobble up the privately held San Francisco-based Vontu.

The acquisition was first reported three weeks ago by InfoWorld’s Matt Hines.

When the deal closes, Symantec plans to fold Vontu’s endpoint, network and storage security technologies into its own Information Risk Management portfolio.

The Vontu team will operate as dedicated team within Symantec’s Security and Data Management Group, continuing to build on the Vontu DLP 8 product suite.

The acquisition comes just a week after Trend Micro’s purchase of Provilla and McAfee’s $350 million deal to buy SafeBoot.
