Petition: stop the SOA 2.0 'madness'!

Macehiter Ward-Dutton, an IT consulting firm, is so disgusted by the recent talk of an "SOA 2.0" that they’ve posted an online petition with the hope that online pressure will cause the "protagonists" of SOA 2.0 to cease and desist from such talk.

"Industry does not, at this point, need more confusion around SOA. SOA has real value, but industry at large is only just coming to terms with what it means and what it can do. Inventing terms like ‘SOA 2.0′ might help some analysts and vendors make money, but overall, in the long run it damages us all."

Damage is right — you see where "Web 2.0" is taking us. (The term that is, not the underlying technologies.) ZDNet blogging colleague Russell Shaw, for one, said that he has always been skeptical of Web 2.0, and now sees it as "nothing more than CMP’s applied-for service mark, a moniker to market conferences… just like any other trademarked ad slogan, it isn’t really yours to use as anything more than a lazy-thought shortcut." Let’s not let "SOA 2.0" take us down the same route.
