Make your own Wi-Fi access point, for free
Looking for something to do this weekend? If you’ve got an old wireless router that you have outgrown, why not turn it into an access point and use it to wipe out dead zones throughout your home?
I just ran across a handy step-by-step guide on SmallNetBuilder.com. The writer, Tim Higgins, tells you how to convert a Linksys WRT54G router into an access point, serving up screen grabs to walk you through each step. Basically, all you need to do is disable the DHCP server in the device you want to be the access point, and change the IP address (for the AP) to an address that is outside the LAN DHCP server range.
That gives you a new access point, and it’s free.
