I like to present the views of people actually using technology as well as examining the moves of the suppliers of that technology. Jim Smid, of Apptis Technology Solutions, answered a few questions for me about his organization’s use of technology from eGenera and Dell.

Please introduce your organization and tell us about your role there.

Jim Smid, Director, Data Center Practice for Apptis Technology Solutions.

Apptis Technology Solutions is a technology solutions provider and value-added reseller for government and industry. We offer advanced and secure solutions for data center, unified communications, network infrastructure and client computing. Our interactive approach, engineering expertise and product knowledge provide customers with secure solutions that are precisely aligned with business and budget requirements.

What are you doing that needed this type of technology?

Apptis Technology Solutions has been helping customers deploy virtualization and combining trusted products to deliver smarter, faster, and more reliable datacenters.

What products did you consider before making a selection?

The virtualization market is crowded with products and part of the benefit Apptis Technology Solutions brings to bear is the experience in deploying these and integrating the solutions. First and foremost, the Dell/PAN product set is a proven product set which integrated seamlessly into the existing environment our customer already owned.

Why did you select this product?

The customer has a strong and successful relationship with Dell which we wanted to build on and this product fit exactly into the niche they were looking for to deliver a privatized cloud environment.

What tangible benefits can you attribute to the use of this product?

The Dell/PAN solution provides critical functionality to improve application availability, provide on-demand computational capacity, and greatly increase efficiencies.

What advice would you offer others facing similar circumstances?

Delivering private cloud architectures is complicated and congested with competing technologies, all of which claim to do all things for all people.  Leverage a partner with a proven solutions provider such as Apptis Technology Solutions who can provide expertise from assessment, design, and implementation and help capitalize on existing investments.
