Mark Angelo, CEO and founder of Lanamark, communicated again. This time, the topic was a virtual desktop planning service his company was launching. Although analysis paralysis is never a pretty sight, planning is a very important step before implementing an IT-based solution. Lanamark wants to be the company to help its partners to provide planning services for virtualized environments.

Here’s what Lanamark has to say about its Desktop Analysis Pack

The Desktop Analysis Pack is designed to help solution providers analyze enterprise desktop environments, identify candidate desktops for virtualization and recommend optimal resource allocation to virtual desktops in order to maximize end user adoption and satisfaction.

Benefits
  • Efficiently analyze existing physical desktop infrastructure.
  • Right-size virtual desktop infrastructure to avoid under- or over-provisioning.
  • Help enterprises rationalize software licenses to reduce software costs and the risk of non-compliance.
Feature Highlights
Lanamark Software Intelligence Leverage advanced software recognition to determine which applications are installed versus ones actually used.
Rich Device Support Examine associations between workstations and external devices such as monitors, printers and scanners.
Hardware Analysis Determine make, model and hardware characteristics of all workstations. Distinguish  between desktops and laptops to identify mobile users. Approximate age and warranty coverage of each workstation.

Snapshot analysis

I’ve posted about Lanamark before (see Lanamark Vready and Lanamark Virtualization Services Software). As I’ve often noted, it is wise to develop an architecture before plowing ahead into an implementation plan. This way, the appropriate technology will be deployed in the proper places and inapproproate technology, no matter how appealing, will not be deployed at all.
