View from Citrix Synergy
I’ll be posting from time to time today from Citrix’s Synergy and the Virtualization Congress that are being held in the MGM Grand Resort in Las Vegas. I’ll bre presenting a paper, Preventable Disasters, at the event.
9:00 AM Update
It was very interesting speaking with attendees prior to the keynote addresses this morning. The topic of performance came up several times.
Those I spoke too wanted me to understand that, to them, performance didn’t center on data throughput, processor power, the number of virtual machines a physical system could support. No, to them, the issue was how productive their staff would be in a virtualized environment.
One gentleman pointed out that in his environment, a major health care provider, for example, Doctors need to see very high resolution images (X-Rays, MRIs, PET Scans and the like) directly on the workstation they’re using. Doctors need to be able to view images of this nature from wherever they are working at the time. In at least that case, the attendee wasn’t convinced that virtual desktop environments would be satisfactory. I suggested that he visit both the Virtual Computer and the Neocleus booths and see their demos. I also suggested that Citrix, along with its partners, had some very powerful solutions to present as well.
