Jimmy Fallon pushes Twitter to the masses

As I’m typing this post, Jimmy Fallon is being taped in New York, and they are hitting the Twitter databases hard.

Kevin Rose is a guest and he is trying to influence the mainstream media world with our new media addiction. Fallon and Rose, who have a combined 530,000 followers, announced that everyone should follow cartoonist and guest Bryan Brinkman. They will check his follower count throughout the show and see how influential their broadcast was.

I found out from Roots drummer ?uestlove about this experiment.

He got about 1000 followers in 5 minutes.

After a half hour, he’s up to 5,000 followers.

And the retweeting just snowballed up.

Blogger Scott Beale took the experiment to the next level by including Brinkman’s URL in his retweet.

The lesson here is that Twitter truly has become powerful and influential. And once it hits mainstream more, it will definitely compete with Facebook. Are you addicted to it?
