Google is attempting to educate the world about the most important piece of software on any computer: the web browser. Not only does it connect you with the world, but you couldn’t view this blog post without one.

I view the site as another small step toward helping people make conscious, educated decisions about which web browsers they use.
-Jason Toff, co-creator of whatbrowser.org

Besides guessing to see which browser you’re using, WhatBrowser offers some tips on how to change your homepage, update your default search engine, and choose which browser your computer uses by default. My favorite section is a link to browser diagnostic tests including Acid3 and v8.

Ironically, if you are using Safari on a Mac, WhatBrowser’s “Try a new browser” page doesn’t list Chrome (probably because it’s still in beta):

This is kind of a cool project, especially for people like my Mom, who don’t understand that clicking the blue “e” icon on her computer is a risky operation.
